Job Search Agencies

International Schools Services. One of the oldest and largest in the field, ISS does it all: recruits teachers and administrators, runs school startups, ships supplies, and does professional development.

Search Associates. Runs job fairs for teachers and administrators, matching vacancies and candidates.

Teaching English Overseas (TEFL or TESOL)

You can can teach English to students desiring to learn the language in private or language schools without a teaching certificate. A good place to start the search for these kinds of jobs is Transitions Abroad, a highly reputable clearinghouse for those who want to live and work overseas.

Their article, Best Websites for Teaching English Abroad, starts with a broad overview, goes to a roundup of job boards, and finally lists news sources. You can’t go wrong starting here if you want to teach overseas but are not a certified teacher.

1.     COBIS (Council of British International Schools) – full range of services to British international schools in over 80 countries

2.     CAIE or just Cambridge (Cambridge Assessment International Examinations) – works with over 30 national governments to provide national exams and help raise educational standards

1.     NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) – supports independent schools, mostly in the US but many abroad. Training, background research, Independent Schools magazine, governance support.

2.     IB (International Baccalaureate) – does not officially accredit but approves use of the IB World School brand
